West Penn Says Antitrust Suit Aims To Shield UPMC Monopoly

Law360, Philadelphia (August 27, 2012, 3:26 PM EDT) -- West Penn Allegheny Health System Inc. lashed out at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center on Friday, claiming an antitrust suit lodged in May over its pending $475 million merger with insurer Highmark Inc. was designed only to protect UPMC's own monopoly of the western Pennsylvania health care market.
