Cameco Puts Up $430M For BHP Uranium Mine

Law360, New York (August 27, 2012, 7:59 PM EDT) -- Uranium heavyweight Cameco Corp. has struck a $430 million deal with BHP Billiton Ltd. to acquire the Australian mining outfit's Yeelirrie uranium project in Western Australia, the buyer announced Sunday.

The deal gives Cameco a largely undeveloped site in the Northern Goldfields region of Western Australia that is suitable for open-pit mining. The acquisition also reinforces Cameco's foothold in the state, where it is already exploring the Kintyre site about 466 miles to the north, according to a statement from the Canada-headquartered Cameco.
