Judge Kills Unauthorized 'Evil Dead' Sequel

Law360, Los Angeles (August 28, 2012, 6:21 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge has awarded film director Sam Raimi and his Renaissance Pictures Ltd. an injunction halting a rival production company's plan to make a sequel to the “Evil Dead” horror film trilogy.

U.S. District Judge Dale Fisher on Aug. 22 entered a default judgment against Award Pictures LLC permanently enjoining the company from using the "Evil Dead" trademark or any similar materials to promote, distribute or produce a film that might confuse the public into believing Award Pictures owned the rights to the series....
