Exelon Abandons Texas Nuclear Plant Over Market Concerns

Law360, Dallas (August 28, 2012, 7:37 PM EDT) -- Exelon Corp., the country’s largest nuclear operator, has ended its plans for a new nuclear energy plant in South Texas because it can’t afford to compete against low natural gas prices, the company announced Tuesday.

Exelon has notified the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission it’s withdrawing a site permit application for an 11,500-acre tract in Victoria County, where it had considered building a nuclear plant, it said in a statement.
