Feinstein Asks FTC To Investigate Calif. Gas Price Spikes

Law360, New York (August 28, 2012, 5:34 PM EDT) -- U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., on Tuesday asked the Federal Trade Commission to immediately investigate spikes in California gasoline prices that followed a fire at a Chevron Corp. refinery, saying the increases appear to be unjustified and suggesting possible manipulation of the market.

Feinstein said gas prices have risen 30 cents in California since the Aug. 6 fire, reaching $4.21, even though the incident did not result in a reduction of gasoline supply that would explain the recent rapid price increase.
