University Sues To Add Inventors To Cialis Patents

Law360, New York (July 24, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Vanderbilt University has sued Icos Corp. to have three university professors named as co-inventors of the patents for blockbuster erectile-dysfunction drug Cialis.

If the university is successful in its litigation, Icos could be forced to pay royalties on the drug, which passed $1 billion in worldwide sales this year, according to the latest earnings report by Icos.

The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday in Delaware district court, asks the court to order the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to name veteran university professors Jackie Corbin, Sharon Francis...
