Eyeing Due Process, Lawmakers Wary Of Pirate Site Crackdown

Law360, New York (September 4, 2012, 9:27 PM EDT) -- Three members of Congress wrote to the Obama administration Thursday questioning the legality of a government program that seizes the domain names of websites suspected of illegally distributing copyrighted material.

Reps. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, and Jared Polis, D-Colo., said that recent instances where the government has returned domain names after finding that the sites do not infringe raise concerns that the program, Operation In Our Sites, does not provide adequate due process.
