Inventor Sues Corporate Giants Over Telecom Patents

Law360, New York (July 24, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Prolific inventor Ronald A. Katz, who claims to have earned $1 billion from his portfolio of more than 50 telecommunications patents, has set his sights on Citibank, Discover Card, T-Mobile and Wal-Mart with a sweeping new lawsuit filed last week in federal court in Texas.

The lawsuit, filed in the Eastern District of Texas by attorneys for Cooley Godward in Palo Alto and Reston, Va., claims that the defendants infringed ten patents covering automated telephone systems, in addition to three patents that have now expired....
