Docs In Judge's Defamation Suit Are Public, Texas Court Says

Law360, New York (September 5, 2012, 4:15 PM EDT) -- A Texas appeals court on Tuesday ruled that documents in a defunct defamation case brought by a state judge against an attorney are court records and thus available to the public, denying the judge's bid to keep the records private.

The ruling by the Sixth Appellate District upholds a lower court decision that the deposition of Dallas District Judge Carlos Cortez and sworn statements of two other witnesses in Cortez's defamation case against attorney Coyt Randal Johnston are open to public view.
