Medicare Will Need Better Data For Care Incentives: Study

Law360, New York (September 4, 2012, 8:36 PM EDT) -- Medicare's attempts to lower costs and improve care via financial incentives will not be effective unless better, more reliable data is used in billing claims, according to a study and editorial published Tuesday in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

Medicare does not reimburse for the treatment of some preventable conditions, such as urinary tract infections acquired in the hospital via a catheter, according to the study authors, who studied data from 96 hospitals in Michigan.
