HHS Won't Regulate Online Health Info Sharing For Now

Law360, New York (September 7, 2012, 7:49 PM EDT) -- The federal government will forgo plans to regulate the online exchange of health information, after stakeholders said that even starting a formal rulemaking process would slow down innovation in the field, an official announced Thursday.

Farzad Mostashari, the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology at the Department of Health and Human Services, announced at a health IT policy meeting Thursday that his office will not pursue governance of an official Nationwide Health Information Network, instead letting the industry develop ways of sharing information without official regulation....
