Philippines Finalizes Rules To Bar Mining In Tourism Areas

Law360, New York (September 11, 2012, 11:19 PM EDT) -- The Philippines on Tuesday finalized new rules that would bar mining at agricultural and tourism development areas but did not address the fate of a proposed $5.9 billion copper-gold mining project in a southern Philippine Island.  

The rules, which were first issued in July, are due for publication by the end of the week, and will take effect 15 days after publication, Carmen Aquino, a spokeswoman for the Philippines Department of Environment and Natural Resources, told Law360 Tuesday.
