Watchdog Takes Issue With Speed Claims In Verizon FiOS Ads

Law360, New York (September 12, 2012, 5:39 PM EDT) -- An advertising industry self-regulator on Tuesday recommended that Verizon Communications Inc. stop using certain claims in advertisements for its fiber-optic FiOS network, finding that the company was making unsupported service speed comparisons between itself and its Internet provider competitors.

Addressing a challenge filed by Comcast Communications Inc., the National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus said Verizon needed to modify its ads to stop conveying the "falsely disparaging, unsupported message" that Internet service from cable companies is significantly slower than FiOS.
