EPA Extends Comment Period On Renewable Fuel Regs Waivers

Law360, New York (September 12, 2012, 8:48 PM EDT) -- Under pressure from lawmakers and several states, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday pushed back a deadline for farmers and other businesses affected by the extreme summer drought to weigh in on requests to waive renewable fuel standard requirements.

The EPA is considering at least five requests from state governors to temporarily exempt them from the standard, or RFS, a mandate requiring fuel producers to use an increasing amount of corn-based ethanol and other renewable fuels in gasoline blends. The governors say waivers are crucial...
