Texas Lawmakers Weigh Cities' Immunity For Property Regs

Law360, Dallas (September 24, 2012, 5:12 PM EDT) -- Texas lawmakers on Monday indicated they want to give developers and property owners a path to sue cities when local planning rules and environmentally focused regulations lead to drastically reduced property values.

In an interim hearing of the House Land and Resource Management Committee, developers asked the committee to consider an amendment to the state Private Real Property Rights Preservation Act that would allow private lawsuits against cities when their property values take a nosedive following regulatory changes like rezoning or restrictions on land use....
