US Trade Rep Tells DC Circ. To Shield FTAA File

Law360, New York (September 18, 2012, 6:42 PM EDT) -- The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative urged the D.C. Circuit on Tuesday to block the release of a classified document from failed free trade negotiations in the late 1990s, saying publication of the white paper could have far-reaching effects on American diplomacy.

The USTR asked the appeals court to overturn U.S. District Judge Richard W. Roberts' February decision that the government hadn't shown enough evidence of harm to keep the paper sealed, meaning it should be released to the Center for International Environmental Law....
