CBO Adds 2M Uninsured To Health Reform Penalty Estimates

Law360, New York (September 19, 2012, 6:55 PM EDT) -- Six million people will be subject to the health care law's individual mandate penalty for failing to get health insurance, about 2 million more people than was previously estimated, according to a Congressional Budget Office report released Wednesday.

The individual mandate was designed to get the maximum number of people, especially healthy people, into health coverage, in order to balance the effects of forcing health insurers to accept all applicants, regardless of pre-existing conditions or gender.
