Medical Equipment Rental Cos. Agree To End Antitrust Row

Law360, Washington (September 21, 2012, 5:17 PM EDT) -- Freedom Medical Inc. and Universal Hospital Services Inc. agreed Friday in Texas federal court to resolve Freedom's antitrust suit alleging UHS conspired with others to monopolize the $450 million medical equipment rental industry.

Freedom, which provides stopgap medical equipment rentals to health care providers, in 2009 sued competitors UHS and Hill-Rom Co. Inc. and two group purchasing organizations, Premier Inc. and Novation LLC, alleging the companies were trying to block competition in a growing market.
