HealthCare Partners Accused Of Operating As Illegal HMO

Law360, New York (September 28, 2012, 3:53 PM EDT) -- Managed care group HealthCare Partners Medical Group Inc. was hit with a putative class action in California court Wednesday, accusing the company of fraudulently operating as an unlicensed health maintenance organization and unfairly denying its members care.

According to plaintiff Juan Carlos Jandres, an HCP patient, the company has “consistently and brazenly” ignored California law by operating as an HMO without the necessary license and allowing nondoctors to control patient care decisions and deny necessary care, in an attempt to “[fatten] the wallets” of its shareholders....
