Amerigroup To Shed Va. Unit Amid WellPoint Merger Probe

Law360, New York (September 28, 2012, 7:33 PM EDT) -- Amerigroup Corp. agreed Friday to sell its Virginia unit to Inova Health System, a move that could help the health insurer's $4.9 billion sale to rival WellPoint Inc. get clearance after antitrust regulators sought more information about Amerigroup's operations in the state.

The deal, which will give Virginia-based Inova all of Amerigroup's managed care operations in the state, will only go ahead if the Amerigroup-WellPoint transaction closes, the company said.
