Anthem Blue Cross Settles Social Security Breach Case

Law360, New York (October 1, 2012, 10:05 PM EDT) -- California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris announced Monday that Anthem Blue Cross had settled a case alleging it printed Social Security numbers on marketing mailers sent to more than 31,000 Medicare Supplement members in April 2011.

Above the address of the mailer recipient's address and visible through the envelope window was a “priority code” consisting of the recipient's Social Security number with additional digits, according to a complaint filed in conjunction with the settlement.
