Sen. Wants NRC Probe Done Before Calif. Nuke Plant Restarts

Law360, New York (October 5, 2012, 7:50 PM EDT) -- A top Senate Democrat on Friday called on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to complete its probe of a radioactive leak at Southern California Edison Co.’s San Onofre nuclear power plant before allowing the plant to resume operations.

Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., gave the commission until next week to assure her it would finish the review before granting SoCal Edison’s request to deliver power after spending the year offline, calling it a “crucial step” to guaranteeing the plant’s safety.
