Covington Can't Rep Minn. In 3M Enviro Suit, Judge Says

Law360, New York (October 11, 2012, 9:15 PM EDT) -- A Minnesota state judge on Thursday disqualified Covington & Burling LLP from representing the state in an environmental suit against 3M Co., saying the firm’s previous representation of 3M on related matters created a conflict of interest.

Judge Robert A. Blaeser said in his opinion that Covington’s role as counsel to the technology company on matters surrounding its fluorochemical and perfluorochemical business allowed it access to confidential information that could be used against it in the state of Minnesota’s case seeking to recover natural resource damages...
