Vonage Settles Patent Battle With Verizon

Law360, New York (October 26, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Ending another patent fight over its internet phone service, Vonage Holdings Corp. on Thursday agreed to settle a patent infringement lawsuit brought by Verizon Communications Inc.

Under the settlement agreement, Vonage will pay Verizon one of two amounts, depending on whether an appeals court agrees to rehear a lawsuit.

If the appeal is rejected, Vonage will have to pay $117.5 million to Verizon. But if the court agrees to rehear the suit, Verizon's award will be cut down to $80 million. Vonage is also expected to...
