NetApp Suit Endangering Open Source Software: Sun

Law360, New York (October 26, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Sun Microsystems has struck back against Network Appliance Inc. and what Sun deems an attack on superior data storage system competition and the open source community, with a lawsuit that threatens to shut down its smaller rival.

Sun filed the suit in a California federal court on Monday, claiming that NetApp is infringing on six patents for network storage systems. The suit followed counterclaims Sun had filed against NetApp in a Texas federal court four days earlier, which asserted 12 other storage system patents were violated....
