CFTC Grants Delay For CME-Traded Energy Swaps

Law360, New York (October 12, 2012, 6:51 PM EDT) -- Big energy traders will have until the end of 2012 to convert their vast holdings of commodity swaps into futures contracts traded on CME Group Inc. platforms after the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission on Friday granted an eleventh-hour delay on implementation for those securities.

The CFTC's Division of Swap Dealer and Intermediary Oversight said in a no-action letter that energy, metals and agricultural swaps would not be included in accounting for a threshold that would require companies to register as swap dealers and hold back...
