UVA Whistleblower Nets Award In FCA Suit Over Health Grant

Law360, New York (October 16, 2012, 2:59 PM ET) -- A Virginia federal jury on Friday awarded a former University of Virginia scientist $819,000 in his False Claims Act suit accusing two university administrators of retaliating against him for blowing the whistle on alleged misuse of a National Institutes of Health grant.
The jury awarded former U.Va. scientist Dr. Weihua Huang $500,000 in compensatory damages and about $320,000 in wages lost after accusing university professor Dr. Ming D. Li and Dr. Bankole A. Johnson, chairman of the university’s department of psychiatry and neurobehavioral science, of declining...
