Apple Faces ITC Probe Over Internet Patent

Law360, New York (October 16, 2012, 7:32 PM EDT) -- The U.S. International Trade Commission said Tuesday that it will investigate whether Apple Inc. is infringing a secure Internet communication patent by importing its iPhone 5, iPad and other flagship devices.

The investigation is based upon a joint complaint brought by Nevada-based VirnetX, Inc. and Science Applications International Corp. alleging violations of  Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930. The ITC's probe will focus on Apple devices with a secure communications application, including several versions of the iPhone, iPad, iPods and Mac computers.
