1st Circ. Won't Reopen Facebook Author's Copyright Case

Law360, New York (October 16, 2012, 10:06 PM EDT) -- The First Circuit dismissed a lawsuit Tuesday against Random House Inc. and Columbia Pictures Industries Inc. that accused author Ben Mezrich of stealing material for a book about Facebook Inc.'s founding that was adapted into the film “The Social Network.”

Aaron Greenspan, a former Harvard classmate of Mark Zuckerberg, told the appeals court that U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert B. Collings had abused his discretion in tossing the suit, which alleged Mezrich's 2009 book “The Accidental Billionaires” borrowed heavily from Greenspan's self-published 2008 book.
