Skadden Guides ASML In $2.5B Microchip Tech Co. Buy

Law360, New York (October 17, 2012, 2:51 PM EDT) -- Microchip equipment maker ASML Holding NV will pay €1.95 billion ($2.5 billion) to acquire California-based Cymer Inc., in a joint effort to create cheaper and more efficient microchip technology, the companies announced Wednesday.

Netherlands-based ASML will acquire Cymer — which creates light-based technology used by chipmakers — in order to further develop extreme ultraviolet semiconductor lithography technology which is necessary for creating cheaper and more energy efficient microchips, the companies said.
