Pa. Passes Bill To Create Mine Reclamation Fund

Law360, Philadelphia (October 17, 2012, 8:58 PM EDT) -- The Pennsylvania Senate gave final approval Tuesday to a bill that would provide financial guarantees to surface coal mine operators looking to rekindle operations at abandoned mine sites across the state.

The bill, which already has won approval from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, allows bond money collected by the state Department of Environmental Protection to help fund reclamation efforts in the event that a miner goes out of business to provide guarantees to coal companies looking to take over production at abandoned mines.
