New Law Prompts Case Dismissals: Energy Cos.

Law360, New York (October 30, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Several energy companies, including Exelon Corp., Commonwealth Edison Co. and Ameren Corp., say recently passed Illinois legislation should prompt the dismissal of two consumer class action lawsuits that accuse power wholesalers of artificially inflating electricity prices.

More than a dozen companies filed a memorandum on Monday in an Illinois federal court seeking to throw out the suits, citing the new state law. That law also induced the dismissal of a state attorney general action against the companies with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
