Transgender Rights Bill Hits Wall Of Silence In NY Senate

Law360, New York (October 24, 2012, 7:54 PM EDT) -- New York state lags behind other states, cities and its own Fortune 500 businesses in failing to protect transgender individuals from being fired because of their gender identity, advocates said Wednesday, blaming state Senate Republicans for a stealth campaign against an anti-discrimination bill.

Some 30 New York-based Fortune 500 companies, including Pfizer Inc., Xerox Corp. and Corning Inc., have employment anti-discrimination policies in place for transgender New Yorkers, defined as people who move from identifying as one gender at birth to the other during the course...
