Italy To Probe Kraft's Sale Of Preserved Meat Unit

Law360, New York (October 30, 2012, 4:22 PM EDT) -- Italy's antitrust watchdog has begun investigating whether Kraft Foods Italia SRL's sale of its Simmenthal unit to the Bolton Group might impede competition for preserved beef as the two food companies control the majority of the market, the regulator said Monday.

The Italian Competition Authority expressed concern that the deal would give Italian-based international consumer product conglomerate Bolton Food SpA too much bargaining power with its suppliers as well as the ability to raise prices on Simmenthal as well as on Manzotin, which Bolton already owns....
