NY, Conn. Bar Hurricane Deductibles For Sandy Claims

Law360, New York (October 31, 2012, 7:46 PM EDT) -- Insurance regulators in New York and Connecticut warned carriers this week not to charge hurricane deductibles for claims arising from Hurricane Sandy, saying the deductibles, which are much higher than those for standard claims, shouldn't apply because the storm was no longer a hurricane when it made landfall.

The New York Department of Financial Services said Wednesday it had notified the insurance industry that hurricane deductibles should not be triggered for the storm, a day after the Connecticut Insurance Department sent a similar instruction to insurers...
