Pa. Gov. Signs Bill Boosting Access To Community Pharmacies

Law360, Philadelphia (November 1, 2012, 6:56 PM EDT) -- Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett signed legislation Thursday that would allow community pharmacies in the state to compete with the mail-order pharmacies that health insurers often rely on to distribute prescription medications to plan participants.

The bill, S.B. 201, requires any health insurance policy or government program providing medical benefits to allow participants to use community or retail pharmacies to fill prescriptions, provided the pharmacy is willing to accept the same pricing established for mail-order pharmacies and pharmacy benefit managers.
