65 NJ Businesses Subpoenaed In Price Gouging Probe

Law360, New York (November 2, 2012, 6:13 PM EDT) -- New Jersey officials announced Friday that they have hit 65 businesses with subpoenas as the state investigates more than 500 consumers complaints of alleged price gouging following Hurricane Sandy.

State officials said that, while they have received claims of price gouging from across the state, the complaints have been particularly prominent in Bergen, Essex, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Passaic counties and haven often involved illegal hikes in the prices of gasoline, generators and other nongasoline fuels, food and lodging.
