Brooklyn Prosecutors Crack Down On Post-Sandy Price-Gouging

Law360, New York (November 8, 2012, 9:20 PM EST) -- Brooklyn prosecutors on Thursday were the latest to target potential price-gouging after Hurricane Sandy amid claims that certain hotels and gas stations ramped up prices and scammers posing as charities and contractors took payments for purported relief and rebuilding efforts. 

Kings County District Attorney Charles Hynes said he would set up a special rackets grand jury to to inquire into various allegations about fake charities soliciting donations, scammers taking payments for nonexistent construction work, and businesses that illegally raised prices amid scarcity and demand, according to...
