NRC Ignored Post-Fukushima Tips In Reactor OK, DC Circ. Told

Law360, Washington (November 19, 2012, 2:05 PM EST) -- Environmental groups told the D.C. Circuit on Monday that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission failed to consider safety recommendations for a $14 billion Southern Co. plant expansion developed after the Fukushima nuclear disaster, claiming the decision leaves the public at risk.

The groups claim the NRC illegally authorized two 1,100-megawatt reactors proposed for the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant in eastern Georgia without implementing any of a task force’s safety recommendations stemming from last year’s disaster at Japan’s Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant.
