Water Filter Patent Anticipated, Invalid: Fed. Circuit

Law360, New York (November 7, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Reversing a 2005 judgment, the Federal Circuit handed U.S. Filter Corp. a victory on Wednesday when it ruled that one of the patents Zenon Environmental Inc. had sued it over was anticipated by an earlier patent and therefore invalid.

In 2003, Zenon had sued competitor U.S. Filter in southern California district court over three patents — U.S. Patent Numbers 6,245,239, 6,550,747 and 6,620,319 — for a system of air cycling that kept debris from clogging membranes in water filters.
