Supreme Court Won't Hear Tobacco Cos.' Engle Challenge

Law360, Chicago (November 26, 2012, 3:16 PM EST) -- The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and Liggett Group LLC's call to review a $20 million judgment against them in an Engle progeny case, despite the companies' argument that their due process rights have been violated.

The high court denied certiorari — without comment, as is customary — to the companies, which had asked that their Aug. 31 petition be kept on hold until the Florida Supreme Court issued a ruling in Philip Morris USA Inc. v. Douglas. A decision in...
