Western Senators Ask DOJ To Probe Gas Price Spikes

Law360, New York (November 27, 2012, 5:25 PM EST) -- Six Democratic senators from California, Washington and Oregon on Tuesday urged the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate whether oil refineries manipulated West Coast markets and caused gasoline shortages that sent prices soaring in May and October.

The lawmakers told U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder in a letter that a probe was necessary in light of a recent McCullough Research report suggesting that crude oil prices declined and inventories increased during the price spike periods.
