FTC Warns Hotels On Deceptive Room Reservation Price Quotes

Law360, New York (November 28, 2012, 2:25 PM EST) -- The Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday fired off warning letters to 22 unnamed hotel operators, saying their online reservation sites might be violating the law by deceptively lowballing estimates of what consumers can expect to pay for their hotel rooms.

Specifically, the FTC said some hotel operators’ websites fail to mention resort fees when quoting room reservation prices, mention the resort fees separately from the purported total price or only in fine print or simply tell consumers that “undefined” fees might apply — practices that potentially...
