DOI To Hold 1st-Ever Offshore Wind Energy Lease Sales

Law360, New York (December 3, 2012, 5:38 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of the Interior on Friday said it would hold the nation’s first competitive lease sales for offshore wind energy, opening more than a quarter-million acres of federal waters off the coasts of New England and Virginia.

The announcement marks a step toward fulfilling the Obama administration’s promise to make more of the Outer Continental Shelf available for renewable energy development — a policy that has drawn criticism from House and Senate Republicans.
