CFTC Commissioner Condemns SEC Merger

Law360, New York (November 13, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a speech titled “Let's Not 'Dial M For Merger,'” a commissioner at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission on Tuesday forcefully opposed the idea that CTFC ought to be combined with its fellow regulator of financial markets, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Commissioner Bart Chilton was responding to a draft report published by the U.S. Department of Treasury on Oct. 11 that outlined a vague plan to make regulation of U.S. financial markets more efficient.
