AHA Says Charitable Deduction Limits Would Hurt Hospitals

Law360, New York (December 10, 2012, 5:32 PM EST) -- The American Hospital Association on Friday warned against slashing taxpayers’ charitable deductions as Congress scrambles to address the national debt and avert automatic budget cuts, saying it would sharply reduce philanthropy and further undermine the wobbly finances of nonprofit hospitals.

In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., the AHA says 90 percent of hospitals and health care professionals expect to see reductions in gift-giving from benefactors if unspecified changes to limits on charitable deductions become law.
