NJ Assembly Panel Greenlights Employee Protection Bill

Law360, New York (December 11, 2012, 6:10 PM EST) -- The New Jersey Assembly Budget Committee on Tuesday approved legislation to toughen enforcement and criminal sanctions against employers who withhold wages or other benefits from their employees, in an effort to make it easier for workers to report workplace abuses.

The bill levies fines, penalties and damages against employers found in violation, and it also protects employees by imposing criminal sanctions against employers who retaliate against employees who file complaints under the statute, Assembly Democrats said in a statement.
