Sen. Warns FCC Against Easing Media Cross-Ownership Rule

Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., on Monday urged the Federal Communications Commission against easing its rules on media cross-ownership, citing News Corp.'s growing hold over the New York and New Jersey media markets as a cautionary tale of the risks of relaxed regulations.

In a letter to FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, Lautenberg urged the regulator not to vote for changes that would make it easier for one company to own newspapers and local television stations in many of the largest markets in the country.
