Jury Awards Morpho $2M Over Airport Screener Patent

Law360, New York (December 14, 2012, 7:24 PM EST) -- A jury in Virginia federal court awarded security technology company Morpho Detection Inc. nearly $2 million last week, finding an explosives and narcotics scanner made by competitor Smiths Detection Inc. infringed on a Morpho patent.

Morpho, a division of France's Safran Group SA, claimed in its September 2011 suit that Smiths willfully used technology in its IonScan 500DT System that infringed a 2004 patent of Morpho's used in its own Itemiser 3 detector.
