Latham Reps Carlyle In $424M Energy Investor Buy

Law360, New York (December 20, 2012, 2:45 PM EST) -- Private equity powerhouse The Carlyle Group LP paid $424 million for a substantial revenue interest in energy investor NGP Energy Capital Management, it said Friday, the latest big-ticket deal for a private equity firm digging into alternative assets to diversify beyond leveraged buyouts.

Carlyle will lift its 47.5 percent stake mainly from Barclays Natural Resource Investments, a unit of megabank Barclays PLC, with 7.5 percent coming from NGP management. The NGP interest will be the cornerstone of Carlyle's budding energy investment platform, the firm said....
